8.15.2023 — Motivation Mondays Hawai’i Edition After the Maui Fires: On Land, Water, Futures, and Community
This week, we’re prioritizing the cause, recovery, and community on Maui, across the Hawaiian islands, and envisioning a better future for us all in harmony with our natural resources.
First, why are we centering Hawai’i? It’s time we see it as more than a vacation destination. The fire in Maui is a microcosm of a macro disaster. This newsletter walks through all the ways we’ve failed ourselves and options on how to envision, support, and design a more restorative future.
Envisioning a more transformational future is important because our present is catastrophic. Informed ideation rooted in deep historical and indigenous knowledge will guide us toward a more harmonious coexistence with our natural resources. The concept of return does not have to mean backward or outdated. It can mean a return to the natural balance of ecosystems that know how to right itself if properly cared for.
