I spent the past four weeks vacillating between being sick as a dog and being celebrated like a champion. Friends across three cities joined and hosted me in celebrating a big milestone birthday (with at least five more to go). I’m exhausted and exhilarated, grateful and overwhelmed, inspired and humbled. Some of us reunited after 10–20 years. Distance is a wise teacher. It shows us what we have in common, the threads that bind us, the years and how they age us, the difference it makes in how we spend our time and energy and with whom, and the depth of the relationship we have with ourselves to prioritize and make powerful choices toward who we are.
